To fill this void, two of my colleagues — Zhonglu Zeng and David Forrest — and I decided to examine the gambling behaviors of Macau casino employees compared to the general population of Macau who were not gaming workers. So it's really at the discretion of the casino. This decline has been accompanied by a general drop in problem gambling prevalence in states such as Queensland which, over this same period, actually witnessed an increase in gambling access See Figure 1. Evidence continues to mount that when it comes to the link between access and problem gambling, addiction rates actually drop with increased exposure to the gambling product. Banning Macau Casino Employees from Gambling: Wise or Misguided Policy?
A general rule is that people cannot play in the same department in which they work. That is, slot employees can play table games but not slots, Dealers can play slots but not tables. Some casinos even allow employees to play while they are on break. Usually employees will make sports bets in the casino where they work. I have even worked in one casino in which all employees were prohibited from playing any casino games, even on their days off.
